We spent some time today exploring Little Dip CP. It is a beautiful little area just south of Robe with a diverse range of ecosystems, ranging from rocky limestone headlands and coastlines, coastal sand dunes and beaches, mallee scrub and fresh water lakes, salt marshes and salt water Lake Eliza. The farm land to the east is also very picturesque. There are some great 4wd tracks through the park and we found ourselves on the undulating sand dunes and rocky hills without realising we'd strayed from the 2wd road. It was a lot of fun.
Our camp at The Gums is in a relatively sheltered spot compared to this windy coastline however it was a bit of a rough night last night due to the tent flapping around and the rain showers. We are the only ones here, however the site has room for about 7 families and the pit toilet is in good condition but there is no water. There is no access to the beach and although you can hear the rumble of the ocean at night the coast must be a few kilometres away.
This morning we had a look at the sights in Robe. It would seem that South Australia does not "do" lighthouse. Yes, they have them, from what we've seen so far, but they are not white with red caps. They are rather modern and Robe's was surrounded by a lovely barbed wire fence. Although I was a little disappointed they do have a red and white striped obelisk on a headland that they used to store rescue rockets in for when they has to rescue people from ship wrecks. We also checked out the Old Gaol ruins while we were there.
