Into South Australia

We covered a bit of ground today and even though the weather wasn't ideal for driving it was better than being at a caravan park in the rain all day.
We left Port Fairy and headed west to Portland. As it's name suggests it is a large working port with lots of industry including an aluminium smelter. We passed some aluminium ingots all neatly stacked as we were on our way to Cape Nelson and the lighthouse. There are also a lot of wind turbines here any you can see why. The weather also added to the dramatic effect of the photos. We explored around the lighthouse and from the top of the cliffs I saw a sea lion leaping in the surf below.

Back on the road we crossed the boarder into South Australia and reached Mount Gambia for lunch. We also checked out  Blue Lake, formed about 5000 years ago by a volcano which punched through the limestone. The crater lake is an amazing blue colour and is the towns water supply.

By mid afternoon we stopped at Beachport where I found a lady selling her smoked trout. We passed the farm on the way into town and her husband smokes them himself. It was delicious!
The lighthouse at Beachport was not white! It was the colour of the local stone, I'm thinking probably a granite. I think it must have been built more recently and not in the 1800 like all the others along this coast.

We made it to Robe and found the turn off to Little Dip Conservation Park. We found The Gums campsite in the dunes and we are the only ones here. We got more rain as we were setting up and I think we're going to be in for a bit of a wet and windy night. Praying the camper holds together.
