We hadn't planned to do the Gibb River Road. It's 600 odd km of dirt, north of the main highway, starting near Derby and ending near Kununurra. We're not really prepared for it and we don't have the time, but here we are tonight at Windjana Gorge in the sticky heat, surrounded by flashing electrical storms and I'm so glad we decided to come.
We've joined two other families, each with 3 children and tomorrow the 15 of us will walk Windjana Gorge in the cool of the morning and Tunnel Creek in the heat of the day.
The limestone walls of the Napier Range rise out of the flat plains like a jagged backbone, grey black in the afternoon light.
Also today, we saw the 11m high tide in Derby and the partial solar eclipse.
