We didn't have much of a plan for today. All I wanted to do was have Barra and chips for dinner. The local lady on the desk at the caravan park suggested The Wharf so we headed down there for an early dinner. We did get great grilled Barra and chips and the kids ate free as the sun went down and the tugs and container ships went about their business in Darwin Harbour.
Earlier in the day we had our picnic lunch at the Palmerston Water Park which was free! But unfortunately the huge water slide wasn't open.
We also stopped at a sheltered workshop that makes bags and things from fabric designed by Aboriginal people. I was able to buy some fabric by the metre to make some tablecloths and who knows what else.
During the heat of the afternoon we visited the Museum and Art Gallery of NT. I enjoyed seeing some of the aboriginal art, the exhibit on Cyclone Tracey and the exhibit on Wallace who was a naturalist at the time of Charles Darwin. They also have the stuffed skin of Sweetheart who was a massive salties that used to attack boats in Darwin the 1970s. He was definitely bigger than The Dominator.
Before dinner we relaxed in the park at Lake Alexander and S played with a local kid. He's missing his friends and will be glad to go back to school in a few weeks.
We've had a great time with Dad has in Darwin. When we come back it'll have to be later in the season so we can see Kakadu and go to some of the Aboriginal festivals at the communities.
