Note to Evan, if the speed limit is 130 it doesn't mean you have to reach it.
We blew, nay shredded, another tyre.
We're all fine.
The back left tyre had been slowly losing air so we'd changed it in Darwin with the spare on the back that looked in better nic. Turned out it wasn't.
80 ks out of Katherine it burst and we skidded along on the rim for a few hundred meters before coming to a stop half off the road at the top of a bank.
A bit scary.
Some feral but very kind hippies (yes dreadlocks, piercings, unshowered, guy with his three women) is a red hippy van stopped to help us. They went back up the road to find the plastic paneling that had blown off. They stayed to watch Evan change the tyre in case it wasn't drivable. And they would have driven on to Mataranka to get help if needed. Thank you kind hippies.
Thankfully all seemed good. After tying the tread back onto the shredded tyre on the back and under strict instructions to drive no faster than 80 we turned back to Katherine.
And now we play the waiting game again in a small town, for parts, namely a rim from the Toyota dealership in Darwin.
At least we got a swim at the hot springs in Katherine which are really beautiful, along a river and not that hot.
